Encounter with a Humpback Whale

Floating weightlessly in the cool blue ocean, I hold my breath as a humpback whale glides slowly past me, so close I can make out every fine detail of its immense frame. Sunlight filters down from the rippled water surface above, streaking across its wrinkled, barnacle‑speckled skin. Deep, pleated grooves run along its throat, expanding gently as it moves through the water. Its enormous, jagged‑edged pectoral fin drifts out beside its body, massive yet surprisingly graceful. I catch its calm, dark eye, and for a quiet moment our worlds meet. There is no threat here, only slow, unhurried power. Bubbles drift softly in the clear water all around us. The whale moves onward with quiet dignity, its huge body slipping through the endless blue sea. Witnessing this gentle giant in its own home fills me with awe. I feel tiny, humbled by the scale of nature, grateful for this rare, unforgettable moment deep beneath the waves.
